Baptism Preparation Team

The Baptism Preparation Team was founded in 1987. The aim of the group is to help parents to understand and prepare for the baptism of their child.

Parents are visited prior to the baptism, by a member of the team to welcome the baby, explain the rite of baptism, to inform them about the preparatory meeting and to answer any questions they may have.

A preparatory meeting takes place on the Wednesday before the fourth Sunday of every month to help parents reflect on the faith they are handing on to their child and their ongoing responsibilities in bringing up that child in the Catholic Faith.
They also meet the other parents which helps make the Baptism a community celebration.

Those who have been involved in this ministry feal that it is very rewarding and it is very important to make babies and parents feel welcome and part of the community.

Some members of the team are involved in the preparatory meetings, others visit the families and attend the baptism about once every three months.

At present there are twelve members of the team including priests and lay people but we are always looking for new members.
