This group was set a short time after the parish was established.
The group currently has about eighty members. The purpose of
the group is
(a) to assist the priests of the parish in the distribution
of Holy Communion,
(b) to bring the Eucharist to the sick (where requested), and
(c) to attend at Exposition.
A Core Group co-ordinates the activities of the wider group.
The Eucharistic Ministers are rostered to assist in the distribution
of the Eucharist at weekends (Saturday Vigil Mass and the Sunday
Masses) and on special feasts such as Christmas and Easter,
and as required at other times.
The group meets on the last Tuesday of the month in the Iona
Centre, when rosters are prepared for the following month.
Lectures and discussions on topics of interest are also held
regularly.
Eucharistic Ministry is a ministry of service to the Catholic
community of Knocklyon. To become a Eucharistic Minister requires
a love and firm belief in the Eucharist. To those with this
belief it is spiritually uplifting and rewarding. No one, no
matter how long or how hard they try, could of themselves be
worthy to be a Eucharistic Minister, but with God’s grace
nothing is impossible. Periodically new members are recruited
and they are most welcome. New members receive training and
there is a simple service of induction.
