The priests of the Parish are always pleased to be invited
to visit those who are sick or housebound, whether to pray
with them, bless them, bring Holy Communion or administer the
Sacraments of Anointing and/or Reconciliation. Accordingly,
we encourage sick persons, or those looking after them, to
contact us if they would like to be visited. For those who
are chronically ill we are happy to call monthly - normally
close to the First Friday - or more or less regularly, as they
wish. Lay Ministers of the Eucharist are also available to
bring Holy Communion to the sick and housebound.
Times of calling can be arranged between the sick person or
carer and the priest or Eucharistic Minister. Our wish is at
all times to be easy, sensitive and informal in our visits.
When the Blessed Sacrament is being brought to the home, some
like to follow the custom of have crucifix and lighted candle(s)
in the room; this practice is appreciated but not a requisite.
Door-to-door visitation of the homes of Parishioners by the
local priests is, as such, no longer possible nowadays, due
both to the vast number of houses in the parish and the workload
of priests, now older and fewer in numbers. The priests do,
however, welcome invitations to bless homes, pray with people
and offer whatever pastoral assistance they can. We are particularly
grateful to the Contact Group who endeavour to visit the homes
in their capacity as parish representatives, to extend goodwill
and to listen to comments or suggestions on matters that may
need attention.
