ANOTHER OF LIFE'S LESSONS

Yesterday's "Family Fun Sports” put me in philosophic mood! It was a happy event. Smiles were the order of the day. You exchanged a few friendly words, whether of banter or of atmospheric expectation, with people standing around the running track or queuing for the pony rides. You sat in the Parish Centre having a cup of tea and chatting with people, hitherto complete strangers. Everyone seemed in the best of form.

What were the ingredients that made it work? Excellent organisation and preparation. Generous participation and involvement of people in running the events and giving a helping hand. Parents and teachers, focused as ever on the happiness of the children. And children showing us how life is best lived in their unbridled joy in the simplest of things - running, playing ball, riding a pony and taking as much pleasure in winning a lollipop for participation as a medal for coming first. Their joy was infectious!

The most common comment was of the kind, "It's good to be here ". And wasn't that what Peter said when he witnessed the Transfiguration of the Lord.
