Are you inclined to criticise or complain
about others? If so, listen to the Guru’s advice:
“If it’s peace you want,
seek to change yourself, not other people. It is easier to
protect your feet with slippers
than to carpet the whole earth!”
How I wish I could follow that advice
consistently! Whenever I find myself in any kind of turmoil,
almost always, somewhere
inside me, I’m wanting something, or, more often, someone
to change. For my inner peace to be disturbed, I don’t
even have to be trying to change other people; it’s enough
for me to be wishing them to be different!
In the game of life, peace is the major prize and acceptance
the skill most essential to achieve it. To accept all persons
just as they are is to love as God loves. It is to know the peace
that the world cannot give, the peace Christ promised His followers.
