Lenten Meditation 2005

Week 2 - Transfiguration

This second week begins with an account of the Transfiguration of Christ. When Jesus realised he was going up to Jerusalem to face death, he needed to hear once again that he was Beloved of God. When these words were spoken ‘his face was changed’ ((Lk 9:28-36).

We also need to see our lives in transfigured ways, replacing envy with admiration, injustice with fairness, hardness of heart with openheartedness. There is so much in all our lives that would benefit if only we take the time to see things differently. Most of all, this week encourages us to walk the road of compassion, avoiding judgement and condemnation (Lk 6:39-38). We are also challenged to practice what we preach and be willing to serve rather than seek to be served. We have clear choices to make (Mt 20:17-28).

  • Is there something in my life I can look at in a new way?
  • How can I be the change I wish to see in the world?
  • How do I experience myself as beloved?
  • In what ways am I envious?
  • Do I practice what I preach?
  • Do I exclude others without even noticing?
  • Am I prepared to serve when I am not being served?
