I met a man one day last week. He had troubles.
He told me about them. There was a whole litany of devastation
he needed to express. How much pain he was feeling! Worse still,
how much pain he had inflicted on others, and particularly on
those he loved. He spoke with ever increasing freedom and energy,
and it wasn’t long before his tears were flowing. How I
wished I could do something to take his pain away! But of course
I couldn’t. I could only listen and try to understand.
But then something marvellous happened. Once he began to overcome
his fear and open up his soul in honesty and truth, his inner
beauty was instantly revealed. A beauty no brokenness could any
longer hide. It was easy to see why God loved him. I only wish
he could believe that!
