Where is the Church in Knocklyon? In one sense it is just behind
Superquinn, at the top of Idrone Avenue. But is this the only
answer?
Where two housewives meet over a cup
of coffee, sharing problems, listening to each other, supporting
each other – the Church
is there.
Where people are trying to work with honesty and integrity -the
Church is there.
Where children hold a jumble sale on their road to raise money
to help the hungry in Rwanda - the Church is there.
Where someone is sick or housebound and perhaps praying for others
- the Church is there.
Where someone is coming up, week after week, to help run a club
or association which builds up community - the Church is there.
Where people are trying to make sense out of their lives in the
face of disappointment or hurt or failure - the Church is there.
In short, the Church is primarily not
a building of bricks and stones, but the Body of Christ. Wherever
Christians are trying
to live out their faith, there is the Church. We, with the whole
of our lives are the People of God. What might happen if we took
ourselves seriously, if we believed in ourselves as Christ believes
in us?
What might happen if we brought the whole of
our lives to our celebration of the Mass, offering everything
with Christ
to the Father? Jesus' words are: "You are the light of the
world, a city built on a hilltop cannot be hidden, in the same
way your light must shine in the sight of all so that seeing
your good works they may give the praise to your Father in heaven".
