ST. COLMCILLE’S COMMUNITY SCHOOL
NEWS
Extra Curricular Summer Activities
The National schools track and field competition was held in
Tullamore on the 4th of June 2005.
Shauna Cannon and Rebecca Tyson both had a good run in the 200m
giving them 5th and 2nd place respectively. However, the most
exciting event of the day was the Junior girls 4 x 100m relay
when St. Colmcille’s girls, Shauna Cannon, Lisa Barnwell,
Natalie Hyland and Rebecca Tyson had a fantastic run. After a
photo finish the girls won 2nd place, which was an excellent
achievement for the schools first competitors in the competition.

Our Prefects 2005 – 2006
A wonderful group of 6th Year students were assigned prefects
in June 2004. They are going to help with Break and Lunchtime
supervision/clean up and have already set up a rota, which
is working very well. Each junior class has a Prefect assigned
to them. This person will be the liaison between the students
and the school staff. They will be able to guide them with
their experience of school life up until now. They will be
the person that a junior student can come to if they are having
problems of any sort and find it difficult to approach a staff
member.
4th and 5th year have a Prefect assigned to
the year and the Head Boy and Head Girl will be working with
the sixth
years.
The Prefects started back this year earlier
than everyone else. They came in for an induction meeting where
they discussed
leadership
skills, working with people, ideas and plans for the year.
Our team this year are an excellent group of
dedicated young men and women and are great ambassadors for our
school. They
are very enthusiastic and have wonderful ideas. They are
already showing great initiative and work very well together.
We are
looking forward to a excellent year with them.
School Musical 2005
We are off again! This year we are staging the Sound of Music.
The scripts and scores have arrived. The Transition Year students
along with Ms. Burke & Ms. Walsh are already looking at
scenery and props and will have their sewing needles out….there
will be a lot of veils needed! Rumour has it that there will
be strange nuns about at the time of performance!!!
The musical will be staged in the school on the week beginning
Monday 24th October. See you there!
