Collection Group
The Envelope Collection group is made up of 105 collectors
and 29 supervisors who do the rounds on a weekly basis to collect
contributions for the Knocklyon Parish Development Fund.
Instituted in 1974, the weekly collection is the mainstay
of the Parish funding and without it the parish would not be
able to function. It pays for the upkeep of the church, capital
costs of schools, and loan repayments.
As with other groups in the parish, there is a total dependency
on people who are willing to volunteer their services. The
group are always looking for new members as over time, people
have to drop out and need to be replaced. The weekly commitment
is about 30 minutes to do a collection round. It offers people
a practical way of serving the parish, and also offers an opportunity
to get to know people in the area.
