This the behind-the-scenes team that are responsible for the
production of Knocklyon News magazine that is delivered to
your door seven or eight times a year. What started as a “parish
newsletter” is now a glossy, professionally-presented
publication that can hold its own in any company. The team
consists of six to eight members and the first issue was published
in 1982.
Prior to the production of each issue, the team holds a planning
meeting to set out the parameters and focus of the next magazine.
There then follows a production meeting where all the material
is laid out and the design is finalised. Later, there are the
proof-reading sessions (usually two), to weed out the errors.
Follow that with the run-a-round to typesetters and printers!
Finally, the finished product is distributed to the trusty
band of school children who undertake door-to-door delivery
all over Knocklyon. Somewhere in the midst of all this, there’s
chasing up of articles, photos, and ads, as well as writing
content.
As you might expect, this bunch works hard. The membership
of the group needs to be continually refreshed and the burden
is too heavy for individuals to continue indefinitely. People
who are interested are always welcome to approach the team
and offer their help.
Being involved in the production of the Knocklyon News is
a great way to learn about the various activities going on
in the parish. You get the opportunity to write reports on
any aspect of parish life (flex your journalistic muscles as
it were), or perhaps explore your flair for photography.
The group is constantly on the lookout for news, views and
interviews – anything that might be of interest to Knocklyon
residents.
